Twin Pines Tourist Park - Advice on Freedom Camping

- Last but not least, we have private bathrooms containing shower, toilet and hand basin. Each bathroom also has a power point for shavers and/or hair dryers.

Freedom Camping

There is a growing trend towards Freedom Camping, where people are taking the advantage of their fully self contained camper vans and stopping for one or more nights to enjoy some of our fantastic scenery.

While the idea is great, unfortunately we are finding that many vans are not self contained and in the absence of public toilets, people are using the bushes for their ablutions.

Naturally locals and fellow tourists are taking exception to this practice and there are moves all over the country to tighten up and restrict where various types of vans can stop for the night.

As New Zealanders who also like to camp in our own country, we hope that reason prevails. We believe that if your van has a toilet with self contained sewage and greywater tanks then you should be allowed to freedom camp for up to two consecutive nights in approved areas. The responsibility then being put back on the campers to keep the area tidy and free of rubbish.

The downside of Freedom Camping is the lack of security, the inability to empty the former mentioned waste tanks, being confined to a small vehicle on wet nights and numerous other little luxuries that you might miss out on while experiencing your magic view .....

Twin Pines has 26 purpose built, all weather, powered sites for caravans and camper vans. We also cater for non-powered vans and tents.

Our amenities block has the best showers that you'll ever see in a campsite plus we've got a very large kitchen, comfortable TV lounge, plus a separate Games Room to enable you to spread out and relax. All are kept scrupulously clean.

Three coin operated washing machines and a large efficient dryer will cater for all your laundry requirements.

Be warned though, many people end up staying longer than what they originally intended.
